StudentIt has been 9 years since I sat in Mr.D’s English class. Yet, when I was asked to write a testimonial for him, I couldn’t help but smile as those fond memories rushed back to me. Reflecting on that time, it’s clear that Mr. D wasn’t just a teacher; he was a mentor who genuinely shaped who I am today – both as a student and as a person.

StudentWhat made Mr. D so special was his ability to make every lesson engaging and memorable. His humour and approachable nature created an environment where asking questions wasn’t just welcomed, it was encouraged. Whether we were discussing complex literary works or exploring creative writing, Mr. D made sure his students never felt afraid to speak up, challenge ideas, or dive deeper into the material. His classroom wasn’t just a place for academic growth but for intellectual curiosity and discovery.

StudentOne of the most defining experiences for me was when Mr. D trained me for our school debate team. Under his guidance, I worked hard and eventually made it to the regional tournament. But when it was my turn to perform, I froze. On the spot, I forgot everything I was supposed to say, completely overwhelmed by nerves. It was one of the most embarrassing moments of my life. But what I’ll always remember is how Mr. D was right there to reassure me. He didn’t criticize or shame me, instead, he let me mourn my loss, made me laugh and encouraged me to keep going, reminding me that failure wasn’t the end, but a steppingstone. His support in that moment gave me the strength to persevere, and to this day, I carry that lesson with me: no matter how badly I might fail, I mustn’t stop trying. I have since enjoyed failing, it has made success that much sweeter.

StudentSome people are simply born to teach, and Mr. D is undoubtedly one of them. His ability to connect with students, inspire them to think critically, and help them grow both inside and outside the classroom is a rare gift. Any student lucky enough to be in his class will find themselves not just learning English, but learning about resilience, self-belief, and the importance of never giving up.
